What is the difference between an accountant and a certified accountant of the OEC ?

The distinction between an accountant and a certified accountant is strictly regulated by law: to practice as a certified accountant, one must be registered with the Ordre des Experts-Comptables, which, as the regulatory body, requires its members to follow specific rules. Although both can handle your day-to-day bookkeeping, their responsibilities differ : unlike their counterpart, a certified accountant possesses in-depth expertise in strategic and tax consulting, can conduct audits and reviews, offer registered office services, or handle the accounting for companies with a balance sheet total exceeding €2.3 million and revenue exceeding €4.6 million.

Every business entity must maintain regular accounting records, prepare annual financial statements (balance sheet, income statement, and notes to the financial statements), and have them approved by the General Meeting within six months of the fiscal year-end.
